I am from the Intermountain West of the United States -- born in Arizona, raised in Arizona and Utah, with various other stints living elsewhere in the Western US.

Before becoming an applied economist, I had the good fortune to work in natural resource management, agriculture, and conservation for many years, and the opportunity to work and travel abroad in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

I am also the lucky husband of Sasha Hamel -- talented ICU nurse, long distance hiker, jewelry maker, salsa dancer, and all around sweet and formidable woman extraordinaire.  Sasha and I are privileged to be the parents to two sweet little kids who keep us extremely busy.
